What is Peyronie's disease?

Peryonies disease is a connective tissue disorder involving the growth of fibrous plaques in the soft tissue of the penis causing chronic inflammation.

Symptoms

Scar tissue forms in the thick sheath of tissue surrounding, causing pain that can lead to abnormal curvature, erectile dysfunction- so struggling to get or maintain a normal erection, indentation, loss of girth and shortening.

The condition may also make sexual intercourse painful and/or difficult,

A Urologist may be able to diagnose the disease. An ultrasound can provide conclusive evidence of Peyronie's disease, ruling out congenital curvature or other disorders.

The disorder is confined to the penis, although a substantial number of men with Peyronie's exhibit other connective tissue disorders in the hand- Dupurytrens contracture and feet.

Treatment

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT)is Nice Approved for the treatment of Peyronie's disease.

Shockwaves come from a hand piece device applied to the outside of the body that generates short bursts of sound, called ‘sonic pulses’to treat the affected tissue.

The treatment is heavily researched showing it to be effective, non-invasive and safe

The earlier the treatment is done in the condition the better and can act as a protective effect on disease progression.

Studies show Shockwave is safe, reduces penile pain, and has some efficacy in improving penile curvature and plaque.

Before attending clinic you must have a diagnosis – this can be arranged if you have not got one from your Doctor/ Consultant
